The Novism Hypnosis Organization of America provides you with a better and more wholesome understanding of what hypnosis truly means.
The very first thing that we must understand is that we are trying to define something that did not originate within our mainstream of practices, belief patterns, and associations to life. Therefore, in beginning to understand what hypnosis truly means becomes rather difficult. This is because of the limitations of language, understanding, and research. Most current research is an indication where information has been found on how hypnosis actually works--and the translations have been performed very poorly.
The second thing we must understand is that the word "hypnosis", within its linguistic limitations, is something that tries to embody a concept or idea. Therefore, words themselves are also misleading, unless we can agree upon the definition of a word to meaning, proportions and ratios.
These items may sound as if we're speaking of semantics, and in fact it is true; we are talking about semantics. On the one hand, semantics are really not to be taken very seriously. While on the other hand, semantics are to be taken very seriously. This paradox alone makes discretion of real research very tedious.
Discernment vs Judgement:
The tool that we use to regard or disregard how intense a word or meaning truly is is called discernment. Discernment is not judgment. Discernment is a process of evaluation that the brain uses to try to understand a level of gravity or a level of importance. However, when we use discernment, we also must agree that all things are important. Therefore, the word discernment does not cause separation or fear.
Judgment however, is a process of the logical brain, which is in a state of fear and therefore evaluates situations for the purpose of separation. Most of our lives we live in judgment rather than discernment. It is within this judgment that most of our failures and our frustrations began and end.
Discernment is not to be taken too seriously, as within the definition of discernment all things are important and all things are equal. However, based on the need which you possess at the moment and the perspective that you wish to achieve, discernment is a very good tool and constant to use.
The brain itself does not understand the meaning of discernment. Therefore a more primitive form of thinking creates judgment rather than discernment.
Consciousness, however, uses both experiences which the brain has stored within itself, and the concept that all experiences are merely just experiences--because of that, there's nothing of which to be afraid.
How These Concepts Connect to Hypnosis
Hypnosis creates a state of "in between", that which is conscious awareness. In other words, you are completely aware of everything around you and what's going on, otherwise how would you be able to listen to your hypnotherapist? It also produces a state of induced sleep light cycles, which the Novism Hypnosis Organization Of America or NHOA calls "stasis".
Stasis is an in-between state that allows a conscious effort to communicate either with the consciousness of an individual or the ability to rearrange thought patterns.
These thought patterns are governed by the neo-cortex, which is carefully and cleverly stored within the neuron dendrites and their associations through physical and chemical bonds.
You Have No Personality
To say that you have a personality generally means that your neuron dendrites have a set pattern of response. But take away or change this pattern, then what happens to the personality? Change or complete disappearance. While this might sound like a frightening concept, if you can truly understand that the concept of a personality is merely an illusion, then you can begin to realize that your true self is nothing like your personality--and that true self has infinite potential!
Consider this for further comprehension of personality. When individuals receive head trauma, some of their behaviors change. This is largely due to damage to the neo-cortex which therefore damages the neuron dendrites.
There are many methods in which the brain learns, and many methods how these thought patterns can be altered. However, there are only a handful of techniques that allow the person being hypnotized to achieve their wanted results without drama.
For example, the common way that we learn is through shock. The first time you received a spanking, for instance, it was a shocking and dramatic experience due to the overwhelming simulation of the nervous system being spanked. The nervous system then produces pain that reaches the primitive brain for the process of judgment. If you do not like pain or cannot resist pain based on your body or your mental fortitude, then the shock of that trauma will curb your behavior.
This is also the reason why many individuals must "lose everything" before they've learned their lessons. But is this necessary? The answer is a simple "no."
However, in passive learning we tend to create or cling onto belief systems which regard purpose in life. This so-called purpose in life is merely part of another illusion of a belief system, which then is processed through judgment and chemicals within the brain. These belief systems, while using passive learning, create a system of confusion that prevents individuals from achieving their desired results.
It is safe to say that there are many individuals on this planet that believe in a destiny or a purpose. While there may be some purpose to life, many times a belief system only interferes with these purposes. It may take 5 years or 40 years for individuals to realize that perhaps they have been misled.
Because the brain filters a great deal of information before actual awareness is achieved, the individual human being may not be fully aware of his or her own potential.
When reaching an in between state where the active Neo cortex lays dormant, it is easier for a very skilled practitioner of hypnosis to enable a thought pattern that may change the neuron dendrite connections, and therefore change ideas and concepts which then manifest into the physical body or the emotional body.
Very much like the placebo effect, which is in most cases is up to 53% effective, one can induce a belief system of wellness and achieve real healing from an illness.
When a hypnotist or hypnotherapist requires participation from his client, he means exactly this. One must allow the thoughts to flow through in a very skilled manner to create new thoughts to give birth to new meaning and definition, which then leads to the results the individual would like to acquire.
About Consciousness
Most religions have a problem with hypnosis. However, they do not realize that by re-creating habitual rituals they are also hypnotizing themselves into a belief system or belief pattern. In many cases, the job of the hypnotist is truly to "de-hypnotize" individuals from belief systems they've acquired through a multifaceted array of thoughts.
Consciousness, however, is another matter on its own. The study of consciousness leads many to an understanding of self-awareness beyond the physical realms of experiential living. Consciousness, however, is not easily swayed.
Therefore, if within the consciousness of an individual there are set patterns that consciousness itself wishes to acquire, then hypnotherapists or hypnotists may be of little support, unless the practitioner understands how to work within the construction of consciousness and awareness. Consciousness however by no means has the desire or the will to produce ailments, frustrations, or any negativity in one's life.
When many individuals speak about resonance or vibration or even the law of attraction, they must first go through consciousness awareness before they can achieve higher states.
Therefore, it's easy to understand how some people can think about things they want and then be able to get it. It is the ability to reach that type of consciousness that produces the opportunity to receive those things that you want to experience.
How Hypnosis Benefits You
Humanity is always in the state of duality.
Even the idea of loving someone is a dualistic approach at trying to
achieve love. For you to love someone and require them to love back is a dualistic approach. It is an approach that requires its expectations to be met. So it is easy to understand that the idea of love that we acquire here in this dualistic reality can be perceived as a contract of agreements and negotiations. This truly takes away from the romantic aspect of what love truly means and possibly should be. However, one can see that this dualistic approach is not far from the truth.
In our practice even the changing of apparel or religion or something so simple as a belief in purpose has separated many couples from achieving true love.
It is all right to understand the dualistic components of love or the dualistic components of any subject matter while existing on this plane of reality. And because of this, the brain, or the so-called personality, has a dualistic relationship with consciousness.
The brain sees the body as a part of the Earth, which has the beginning and has an end. However, consciousness does not see itself this way. Consciousness is an everlasting energetic being.
The benefit of consciousness is that it's ever patient because it fears nothing.
Hypnosis allows you the benefit of being able to unite consciousness and the brain, or so-called personality.
Therefore, we have a physical side of hypnosis that is beneficial to changing habits that are wired within the brain, as well as belief systems, practices, fears, phobias, and other matters which have been embedded into us by means of experiences which happen to us or that we have interpreted while viewing others. We also have a spiritual benefit to hypnosis.
Many health issues also are in the dualistic approach. In many cases, our own belief systems keep us within the realm of our own illnesses.
In my practice, I have realized that a doctor can inform you that you have only a few months to live; however, the Medical Association was founded upon the so-called false expectations of allowing you to believe that you could live and go beyond the illness...or simply endure the illness for the rest of your life.
Hypnosis can indeed de-hypnotize or de-program you from a belief system that has fully embraced the idea that we only go from bad to worse, and re-calibrate the mind to produce the results that everything is better. This attribute alone has helped many overcome great illnesses.
Frustrations are also a pattern of belief systems that are embedded within us because of our inability to communicate, understand, or calculate efficiently at a given time. This is why we all learn at a different rate. Hypnosis also is a great benefit for allowing the active brain, or the conscious brain, from interfering with learning. It does this by removing the frustration and allowing only the knowledge to permeate and filter through.
The Problem with Hypnotists
If there is problem with hypnotists and practitioners, it would be the very same problem that you yourselves face on a day-to-day basis. It is the duality of knowledge and understanding that does not allow us to comprehend beyond the means of our own calculations, belief systems, and fears.
If you're in the medical field, then is most likely that you fear going against the logical boundaries in the scientific boundaries of medical science, and the American Association of Medicine. This makes it quite difficult for these individual practitioners to venture beyond the normal structures or belief systems or paradigms which can allow an individual client to achieve his or her optimal goals.
Likewise, it is quite important to venture forth and understand the in-depth meaning of hypnosis, meditation and consciousness, for practitioners to fully comprehend how to best assist their clients.
